Multi-level marketing has gotten a bad reputation from skeptics and a few illegal pyramid schemes, which ruined the status of legal MLMs. There are multi-level companies who sell great products and whose distributors do make healthy profits. However, no company can recruit salespeople ad infinitum. This, perhaps, is one reason why people are skeptical about joining these companies.
Joining a multi-level marketing company has many benefits, including earning money. You get tax deductions for owning a home business, and you get to buy your products at a discount. You might even make some new friends. Sales meetings are always positive and you’ll feel good in such a high-energy atmosphere.

But if recruiting other salespeople were the best way to do business, don’t you think the rest of the world would have caught on by now? Traditional businesses would have all converted to a multi-level marketing structure by now if that were the way to earn the most profits. One way to know if a company is scamming you is if they put the emphasis on recruiting more distributors, rather than selling products. If so, the company structure is flawed and sooner or later the pyramid will collapse.
Keep in mind that running any business takes money, too. You will have expenses for phone, gas, and buying inventory. You might have to pay for training and promotional material like brochures. If you decide to get involved with an MLM company, you have the chance to earn money and work your own schedule. Be sure to research the opportunity thoroughly to make sure the company is legitimate and the distributors earn as much as they say they do.
